Temple Square at Christmas

We went to Temple Square the Monday before Christmas for our family night since John had the next days off and the kids were out of school, so it didn't matter if things ran late for the night. I love all the newer displays in the north visitor center. We didn't get to look at everything there since we thought that we were there to mainly see the lights. We definately will have to look at more there for a different family night. In the car we did the little symbols of Christmas (thanks to Monica for the link to the lesson). It was fun to sing the songs that went with the symbols and bring a little Christmas spirit before arriving to Temple Square. It's always different to see the changes that are made every so often there. I remember when I was little when all of the big trees lining the main north to south walkway were all covered with lights and later downsized and aren't lit anymore. One of my favorite changes is of course the addition of the lights to the main street area that was made. The famous pink trees by the chapel or whatever it's called were moved to the fountains running to the main street plaza area and are now replaced with orange. One of the more recent that started last year was the big giant pine tree that is by the entrance to the main street area isn't lit anymore. It used to be all red. I miss that one, it was so pretty. This year something new was the manger scene of Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus was in the middle of the infinity pool in the middle of the main street plaza.

Sarah always says cute things and when we went to see the Christus statue she of course recognized that it was Jesus and said so, but the funny thing was that she said that He was sleeping. I figured it was because the eyes have no definition of the middle of the eyes like irises or pupils. Its always one of Johns favorite times to take pictures of the family and of the temple. We also went up the steps as far as we could this time to take pictures at the conference center. The steps were really icy and Isaac fell on his butt since him and Maddy were messing around when they weren't supposed to. It was a fun night. We had some hot chocolate when we got home.
